Winter Chamber Series: Brahms & Franck
January 29, 2028 @ 2:00 pm
The Winter Chamber Series continues with an afternoon of richly Romantic music for violin and piano. Aria Volenne and pianist Ilse Moreau pair Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor with César Franck’s Sonata in A major. Franck wrote the sonata in 1886 as a wedding present for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, and it has become one of the best-loved works in the chamber repertoire. Its themes return and transform across all four movements, building to a radiant finale that opens with a canon between the two instruments. The Old Library makes an intimate setting for music made at close quarters. Seating is limited, so early booking is recommended.
